Introduction
StoryAnywhere in the PeopleSafe mobile app is the tool that gives workers a quick and easy way to get involved and bring up safety stories that happen in the real world of work. It allows all workers to get information into PeopleSafe so that other processes can be triggered, or simply as a 'heads up' on what's happening. It means your boss will know straight away, it won't be forgotten and a decision can be made about what to do next. It's often used as the first alert that more discussion may be needed.
Once you have the StoryAnywhere App downloaded on your mobile device, it's a really simple process of opening the App, tapping on Tell Your Story® , choosing what best fits your story: Hurt, First Aid, Fix, Risk, Close Call, Nice or Suggestions, adding some details and clicking Send. A story can be sent from wherever you have data coverage or if not, by sending a TXT message to 4164.
How StoryAnywhere Helps
- StoryAnywhere gives workers an EASY ( non confrontional ) way to engage and participate in good safety improvement processes.
- It doesn't matter where you are working; out in the field or in a busy store or workshop, you can still get involved in making your workplace safe.
- Simple details are all that's required and so reduces the expectation of lots of words and complex explanations. It takes less than 30 seconds to put a story into StoryAnywhere.
- PeopleSafe will immediately send out email notifications and TXT alerts ( if it's serious) to the appropriate people to let them know a story has been told. The notification will include the details of the story and a link to click through to view the StoryAnywhere Task. Whoever has the role of looking at or reviewing the Story, they will decide what should happen next. Now no one can say they weren't aware of an incident happening as everyone gets notified straight away.
- Putting your story in PeopleSafe means your organisation has one place to gather all safety related information, reducing the number of decisions a worker has to make… e.g Put It In PeopleSafe
How StoryAnywhere Works
- Any User of PeopleSafe has access to the Mobile App and can download it to their mobile device
- A User opens the App and taps Tell Your Story® to begin their story
- Users begin by selecting the Story Type
- Adding brief details about the story
- Decide how important it is
- Optional to take a photo and add their location before sending it off
- The boss or manager of the story teller will decide if anything needs to happen. If nothing needs to be done, the StoryAnywhere task can be completed
- If the story is serious or needs further investigation the boss or manager can decide to use Tell Full Story in the web app.
- If data coverage is not available a TXT message can be sent to 4164 provided the worker has their cellphone number added to their Staff Profile
Getting Started
As soon as Users have been given their usernames and passwords to login to PeopleSafe, they can download the app and have all they need to start telling safety stories straight away.
Expected Step by Step Process
- Users are given their unique username and password
- Users download the PeopleSafe Mobile App and login to start telling stories
- Managers and Coordinators are notified via email of a StoryAnywhere Alert. If story is rated 'serious' another email alert is sent and a TXT message, to make sure the message is received.
- A StoryAnywhere Task is created in PeopleSafe which gives details of the story
- Managers and/or Coordinators verify the story with the story teller or other workers and give immediate aid as required
- The appropriate person reviews the story
- The review is completed and no further action taken OR
- The review is completed and a decision is made to investigate further and the Tell Full Story process is followed.

Review
Telling a quick story is a great start. It means information gets to you quickly and allows you to make decisions on the spot. However you may also realise there's a lot more to the story and you need to get more detail. In that case you decide to Tell a Full Story and record a lot more information about what happened. The Tell Your Story process takes you step by step through the right questions to ask and information to consider and think about the steps you might need to take to keep your workers safe.
Related Processes and Tasks
All Coordinators and Managers who are assigned as the Manager of the worker who told the story, will receive an email story notification which contains the main details of the Story, and will be assigned the review task. When a Story is deemed 'serious' if for example HURT has been selected and the worker has rated it as 'A big deal, very important', PeopleSafe will send out an extra notification by way of TXT alert and email to users with Coordinator Security Clearance, and anyone with a Manage Users Security Clearance, providing that their Staff Profile has these settings set correctly to On. These extra alerts are designed to help management take appropriate actions sooner and assist in incident notification across the organisation.
Reports
Smart-lists allow the following StoryAnywhere fields to be filtered in preparation for print, PDF, CSV, or bar graph reports:
- StoryAnyWhere Type selected ( Hurt, Fix, Risk etc )
- Who sent in the story
- Who was notified of the story
- When it happened
- When the StoryAnywhere task is Due for completion
- When the Task was Completed
- Overdue Tasks
- Organisation the story was told in (useful for users with All Organisation view)
In One-click Story Reporting, the Story does not attempt to record which of a staff member’s Jobs they were performing at the time, so a single story may appear related to multiple Jobs.
